Doris Included in Irish Team While Joe McCarthy Left Out
Newly reappointed head coach the Ireland coach has named captain Caelan Doris in his Irish roster for the autumn Tests, however lock McCarthy has been excluded.
The captain, who has not played since undergoing a shoulder operation in the start of May, has come back to Leinster training, but it remains unclear if he will be ready to face New Zealand in the US on 1 November.
Second row McCarthy, however, did not make the cut after failing to recover from the foot issue suffered during the opening Lions Test against Australia in July.
Northern province player Izuchukwu and southern province wing Calvin Nash are not included because of fitness concerns, and number 15 Keenan was previously excluded after having a hip operation after the summer tour.
Leinster forward McCarthy - Joe's younger brother - is the only uncapped member in the 34-man group, but Irish rugby authorities says new Munster pair Edogbo and Brian Gleeson and previously capped Connacht winger Bolton will travel to Chicago as "cover".
After facing the New Zealand at Soldier Field in a rematch of their 2016 encounter, the team host Japan, the Wallabies and world champions the Springboks in Dublin.
"There's an exciting look to the squad and it's a chance for the veteran players and for those who made their debuts on the summer tour to the Lelos and the Lobos," said Farrell, back to Ireland duty after a break to coach the British and Irish Lions to Australia.
In a mostly experienced selection, Leinster's Prendergast and Munster's Crowley will again vie for the starting number 10 spot. The number 10 jersey is still available, as Prendergast and Crowley poised to play against each other for the first time in the upcoming United Rugby Championship match at the Dublin venue.
Frawley is the additional fly-half chosen with Farrell deciding not to selecting Leinster's Byrne.
At number 9, Farrell has picked British and Irish Lion Gibson-Park and Craig Casey, who captained the national side to the summer Test wins over the Lelos and Portugal. Additionally, there is a recall for Connacht's Blade, chosen to club-mate Ben Murphy.
Robbie Henshaw, Aki, Ringrose and McCloskey represent an experienced cohort of centre options. Osborne is another option in the midfield, though the youngster is additionally a leading candidate to deputise for Keenan at number 15.
Outside backs James Lowe, Mack Hansen, O'Brien and Jacob Stockdale are included. The winger shone on his national team debut during the summer with a brace each in the wins over Georgia and the Lobos.
Paddy McCarthy is the only new name in the Irish pack. The loose-head prop has started a couple of Leinster's URC United Rugby Championship games this season and featured in Ireland A's defeat by the English in Bristol earlier this year.
McCarthy was selected in caretaker coach Paul O'Connell's summer squad, but did not earn a cap.
Munster second row Ahern, who earned his debut appearances in those Tests, is retained, while experienced Ulster lock Henderson is back after missing the summer tour.
Jack Conan, who started all three Lions matches during the tour, is set to deputise for Doris should the skipper does not regain full fitness soon enough to play the All Blacks.
The Ireland squad will meet in the capital on the start of the week before flying to Chicago on Tuesday.
