Egypt's Foreign Minister Pressures the Palestinian Group to Embrace the US Gaza Proposal and Disarm

Egypt and Qatar are currently engaged in attempts to convince Hamas to comply with the former US president's proposal to stop the war in Gaza, as stated by Egypt's foreign minister.

Growing Diplomatic Pressure on the Group

Egypt's foreign minister stated that the moment has arrived for the organization to surrender arms and avoid providing Israeli forces any pretext to persist in its operations in Gaza, where 28 Palestinians were killed on recently.

“We must avoid providing any justification for ongoing civilian casualties, which have escalated far beyond the events of October 7th,” Abdelatty said.

The diplomat explained that Cairo is “working alongside Qatar and Turkey to encourage Hamas to accept the proposal”.

Key Points of the Peace Plan

This proposal would require the group to:

  • Lay down its arms and exit politics
  • Return the remaining 48 hostages from the 2023 attack, with 20 are believed to be living

In return, Israel would:

  • Gradually withdraw its forces from Gaza
  • Substituted by an multinational troops
  • Accept a temporary government led by Trump

Experts concur that the initiative would spell an end to Hamas’s identity as an armed Palestinian resistance group, while the Israeli side would give little ground.

Split Opinions within the Faction

The group is at odds over how to respond, with certain officials seeking additional time to consider the deal.

Izz al-Din al-Haddad has resisted the plan, viewing it as a move to eradicate Hamas if they comply.

Insiders report that Hamas is inclined to seek modifications regarding:

  • Disarmament terms
  • Ongoing deployment of soldiers in the area
  • Guarantees that the top officials will not be attacked

Humanitarian Crisis Worsens

Israel continued its operations in Gaza City and bombardment across the region on the recent day, killing numerous civilians.

Eleven of the those killed were in Gaza City, while the others perished in the south, including three in an Israeli drone strike in a southern area, which had been once declared a safe zone.

Israel issued its final warning for the city on earlier this week, with the top defense official announcing that those who stay would be labeled as militants, a label that defies international law.

Numerous of residents remain unable to leave in the city, many of whom who lack the means for the evacuation to the south, which allegedly requires a significant sum.

“Countless individuals are forced to sleep outdoors while seeking refuge,” commented a Red Cross spokesperson.

The UN reported that there is no safe place for people fleeing the city, as zones labeled as secure areas in southern Gaza are “places of death”.

A UNICEF spokesperson called the idea of secure areas as “unrealistic”, noting that airstrikes are used with frightening frequency and schools used as refuges are often destroyed.

Hospitals under Severe Strain

Healthcare centers in southern Gaza are stretched to the limit, with the Red Cross field hospital serving significantly beyond its intended capacity.

Recently, one of the last functioning hospitals took in numerous fatalities of people killed by the Israeli military.

The head of paediatrics characterized the conditions as “extremely difficult”.

Israeli forces has been accused of attacking doctors and clinics, with a nurse allegedly detained while on duty in a southern city.

Authorities has previously claimed that arrested medical officials had links with Hamas, though without providing evidence.

The overall death toll from Israel’s war in the strip has climbed to over 62,000 Gazans dead and about 170,000 wounded, as reported by the local health officials.
