E-commerce platforms featuring these four major platforms are now being probed in the French Republic for the allegation of permitting youngsters to access adult material on their platforms, the prosecutor's office in Paris announced on Tuesday.

The nation's regulatory body had flagged the retailers to the prosecution service on this past Sunday after voicing concerns about the marketing of minor-looking sex dolls on Shein's platform over the weekend.

The investigative authorities noted that the websites are being looked into over harmful, explicit or inappropriate material that can be seen by minors.

AliExpress asserted that it considers the matter with utmost gravity. These companies have also been reached out to for comment.

Two of the retailers are additionally being examined over the distribution of content concerning children that are of a explicit nature, the authorities said.

The cases have been handed over to a specialized police unit, the prosecution service explained. This division is an branch of the French police force that manages the protection of young people.

AliExpress asserted that the listings in dispute violated its policies and were deleted once it became aware of them.

The national consumer agency, the consumer protection directorate, had stated that the sex dolls' description and classification left "minimal uncertainty as to the child pornography character" of the products.

The investigation of the platform coincides with the firm, which was founded in the People's Republic of China, prepares for the inauguration on Wednesday of its first fixed physical store in France.
