Manchester United Boss Ruben Amorim Admits He Can't Run From Poor Record

Man Utd manager under pressure during recent fixture

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim feels the pressure during their 3-1 defeat at Brentford

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim admits he cannot hide from his troubling performance and says it is understandable that club icons are questioning him.

Earlier this week, the club's record goalscorer Wayne Rooney stated on his program that "the spirit has vanished" from his old club.

The Portuguese manager has secured just eighteen wins from his forty-nine games in control, including 9 out of thirty-three in the Premier League, where he has still to achieve back-to-back successive wins.

While senior club insiders are certain that the INEOS chief is still supportive Amorim, failure to defeat newly promoted Sunderland on the weekend will spark new rumors about his future heading into another two-week international break.

"It is understandable," stated the Portuguese manager, when questioned about Rooney's comments. "One cannot run away from the results."

"Then you have the legacy from the previous campaign, [although] that period for me doesn't matter."

Supporter Response and Current Circumstances

United's followers stayed behind their manager following the previous campaign's poor fare, when they finished 15th in the league - their lowest showing since the 1973-74 relegation season - and were defeated in the Europa League final, in the belief that this season would be substantially improved.

The manager told supporters the situation would improve because he had more opportunity to train with his players without the midweek commitment of continental competition.

That is not how the opening six games have unfolded as Manchester United have experienced three losses so far and find themselves 14th in the standings.

Coach's Response to Questions

When asked what guarantees he could provide supporters that the position will improve, Amorim stated: "It's not time to talk, it is the time to prove."

"I analyze the games this season and, for me, they are entirely distinct, but I have little to say at the current time."

  • Manchester United currently hold 14th place in the Premier League
  • The manager has secured just 18 of his 49 games in charge
  • Wayne Rooney recently criticized the team's present situation
  • Saturday's match against Sunderland is important for the manager's future
