The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Preview Arrives, Unveiling Rosalina and Bowser Jr. Voices
Nintendo alongside Illumination unveiled the first full-length trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. This occurred during a special Nintendo Direct that centered on the soon-to-release cartoon movie.
Following up on the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this latest chapter will propel Mario to the distant reaches of the cosmos. There, he will encounter a new princess and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.
A Space-Faring Quest Drawing from Classic Games
In the vein of the Wii console classics that serve as its inspiration, Mario will depart from the well-known surroundings of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. During his grand adventure, he will meet again some well-known personalities, such as the Luma, a popular character from the first movie.
But it appears Mario and his sibling Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who apparently utilizes powers related to metal. Worth mentioning, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on Galaxy-inspired imagery; it also contains hints to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
All-Star Vocal Ensemble Reprise Roles and Welcome Newcomers
The movie will welcome back of the primary vocal talent, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
A Big Year for Mario
Mario's latest cinematic adventure is set to release near the 40th anniversary of the first Super Mario Bros. title. In addition to the movie, 2026 promises to be a major period for Mario and his friends.
Nintendo confirmed three new games officially announced for that year, such as Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Release Date Confirmed
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
